My first poem of 2010!
Yeah you heard (read) it right! Though I'm far behind than what I thought (had thought I'll manage to churn one out in Jan 2010..and its March now..sheesh!), I am happy to realize that I can still write a few lines! Wrote the poem last week.
Well, I donot intend to post the poem over here, yeah, I know I had posted a selected few in the past. But I feel they're better placed in my diary rather than posting here and letting people go zzzz...or aargghh...! Wanted to share my happiness and that's it!
Keep writing!
(hey that's meant for me too! :p)

vocab for the week 40
Is it okay to say ‘complete novice’?
First, let’s deal with the pronunciation of ‘novice’. The ‘o’ is like the ‘o’ in ‘hot’, ‘pot’, and ‘got’, and the ‘i’ is like ‘i’ the ‘it’, ‘bit’, and ‘kit’. The final ‘ce’ sounds like the ‘s’ in ‘sit’, ‘sip’, and ‘sun’. The word is pronounced ‘NO-vis’ with the stress on the first syllable. When you say that someone is a novice, you mean that the person is a beginner; he has no real experience. It is common to hear native speakers of English referring to someone as being a ‘complete novice’. Careful users of the language frown upon this.
*When it comes to tennis, Vijaya is a complete novice.

What is the meaning of ‘straw in the wind’?
What would happen if you were to leave a straw in the wind? It’ll probably get blown away; but in the process, it will tell you something. It will give you information about the direction in which the wind is blowing. When you say that something is a straw in the wind, what you mean is that it is a sign of things to come; a small hint of what is likely to happen in the future.
*There are straws in the wind which suggest that the two companies will go belly up.
*The constant bickering is a straw in the wind indicating future problems for the newly married couple.

What's in a name?
Received a letter today from my current alma-mater (?) a.k.a. The ICAI* regarding an expected reply..The reply matter is not relevant here. What is relevant is, the name. The term. The relevant matter here is that 'they' have used the same age-old 'designation' (behold my peers!) - 'Articled Clerk' - instead of 'Articled Assistant'! Sheeesh! Why was our (Articled Assistants') 'designation' changed if they wanted to use and re-use the same ol' term again and again?!? I assume we, students, can address ourselves as Assistants and not Clerks! Bahut na-insaafi hai yeh..! :D
*Google/Blackle the term as it is and help yourself if you don't have an iota of idea of what I've blogged on..Just wanted to make a point without much of text and I was in no mood to elaborate much :D
P.S. I do not, by any means, mean to demean the ICAI..Who will if the respected Institute has the potential to open ways and means for my bread and butter!! Just wanted to make a light-point that's it! (notice the post's label - its humour only!)

Ebony and Ivory
Unwinding to the above song right now..Pondering over a small fight with a close relative..Love the song more for its lyrics over and above the music (Sir Paul McCartney, thank you!)
And yeah, don't forget to check out the li'l piece of interesting history of the song.

Ebony And Ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard oh lord why don't we?
We all know that people are the same where ever you go
there is good and bad in everyone
we learn to live we learn to give each other what we need to survive together alive

What is the meaning of ‘pencil in’?
When we write with a pencil, we know it is something that can be erased; it is not permanent. If you ‘pencil in’ an appointment for someone, you are making a temporary appointment for that individual. It is not definite; the appointment can be changed to a later date.
*The dentist said he would pencil me in for next Thursday.

I'm blessed.
Was keen on writing on my parents but was short of words. Not because there is nothing to write but because there is so much to write on this couple whom I address as Aai-Baba! I think you will too face this sort of dilemma if anytime you think of writing on your parents. The only words that flashed before my eyes (read: mind) while blogging were :
"I'm Blessed"
I am sure you will agree that you are blessed too. If you don't or may be if you feel the same but not so strongly, wait for some time and an incident or a series of incidents will let you realize that you too are blessed by having such a wonderful set of parents. May be you would have experienced it in the past, and I think you will in the future too!
P.S. Hope you smiled or atleast agreed to what I've posted above. If its a yes in any case, I'll be happy if you murmur a Thank-you for your parents (saying a Thank-you to them straight away will be fantastic over a self-murmur!). Oh well..its your call after all..I just took mine! (wink wink!)

One liner
My friend worked out on a thought of his yesterday. I translated and improvised it (was originally in Marathi), thought of sharing it over here..The edited version:
Don't think you are victorious if the person you attack by the sword of your words remains silent and speechless. There are chances that you might've bruised his heart forever.
